PIA/GATF Sheetfed Offset Press Training Simulator
Date: 11/28/2007 - 11/29/2007
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
The Sheetfed Offset Press Training Simulator (“SHOTS”) is a highly integrated, interactive software package used as training systems for press operators. It can be used to teach graphic arts personnel how to recognize, analyze, and correct print problems. It does so by simulating the operation of a sheetfed press (two unit and six unit) where any changes to the press are reflected in the simulated print copy.
With two modes of operation (perfect or problem mode), SHOTS can teach apprentices and new press operators the skills and techniques of running a press, while experienced press operators can sharpen their skills and extend their existing knowledge.
SHOTS is used to show people how printing works — to make them appreciate the fragile equilibrium that produces quality printing. The main users of simulators are printers. But simulators are also used by suppliers, training organizations, and schools.
Using Press Training Simulators, “pressruns” can be pre-defined, in which sets of problems will occur over time; e.g., color and register at makeready, chemistry and density modifications during the run, etc. As the operators deal with these problems, all of their actions and the results and costs of these actions are tracked on the computer.
Also available through PIA/GATF is the SIR Heatset Web Offset Simulator. For details, please contact Ricardo Vila-Roger at (800) 910-4283 x715 or by email at rvilaroger@piagatf.org.
