Lisa Cross

Lisa Cross is editor of e-GAM, GAM's e-letter published three times a week, news editor for graphicartsonline.com and senior editor of Graphic Arts Monthly. She has worked on GAM for over 20 years covering almost all aspects of the graphic arts industry. Her work has won several writing awards, including being named a Neal Award finalist.
 
In 2007 Cross received the 9th Annual Tom McMillan Award for Editorial Excellence in the graphic arts industry. The award is presented annually to the editor or writer who, according to their peers, exhibits the highest standards of journalistic integrity and professionalism; understanding of the industry, including its technologies and applications; and performs their duties in such a way as to act as a role model for other journalists. Hundreds of industry journalists and communications professionals vote to select each year's winner.
 
Cross is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University where she majored in Speech Communications, and of Fordham University where she earned an MBA in Finance and Marketing, graduating with honors.

Printing sales will fall 3.5% to 4.5% this year (08 was down 3.9%), NAPL chief economist said yesterday at NPES Print Outlook in Washington DC.

Publisher HarperCollins kills its printed fall 2009 catalogs for digital a alternative. A PDF version of the formerly printed and mailed catalog will also be available.

Three Michigan dailies—The Flint Journal, The Saginaw News and The Bay City Times—will eliminate four print editions, publishing only on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays starting June 1. The 174-year-old Ann Arbor News will print its last edition in July and move online.

Time Warner will start selling old movies from its vaults through an online store, procuring DVD print-on-demand services to fulfill orders.

A working paper authored by three economists for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis reports that four claims about the nation’s current finanical crisis appear to be myths. The findings of the research paper, based on data up until Oct. 15, report:
•Bank lending to corporate America and individuals has not declined.
•Lending between banks has not dried up.
•Commercial paper issued by financial institutions has declined, but paper issued by nonfinancial institutions is unchanged. 
•Banks do not, as popularly believed, play a large role in channeling money from savers to borrowers.

Ricoh to Launch Digital Press at GraphExpo

Ricoh will launch its 90-ppm Pro C900 color digital press for production printing environments at GraphExpo. The device uses pulverized toner for what Ricoh believes will provide a wider color gamut and improved fusibility, and outputs at 1200-dpi resolution on thick paper (up to 300 gsm) and even coated stock, supporting 12.6×17.7´´ images on sheets up 13×19´´. Showing it is serious about quality, Ricoh added an inline spectrophotometer to keep color on track.
The C900 joins three other black-and-white production devices.
