  • Texas Trade Print for 4over

    January 26, 2009

On Friday, I was one of more than 100 people "braving" 75-degree temperatures (above zero!) to attend the grand opening ceremonies of 4over, Inc.’s 50,000-sq.ft. plant in Arlington, TX, near Dallas—the $80-million trade printer’s sixth manufacturing site. Some 25 employees have been hired there, with about 25 more to go. Its two new Komori Lithrone presses are up and running approximately 1,500 jobs daily already.

During a lunch of zesty Texas barbecue, I sat at a table with a handful of local small printers and brokers—all 4over customers. They told me how their businesses have been booming (especially direct mail advertising) and were delighted to hear about the free delivery service starting next month for the Dallas/Fort Worth area with no minimum order requirement. 4over CEO Zarik Megerdichian echoed their optimism, remarking to Chamber of Commerce officials that his business is "recession-proof."

Late next month, in conjunction with the Graphics of the Americas show, 4over will officially open another new plant in balmy Miami. And yet another ribbon-cutting will take place in New Jersey in early April, to coincide with the On Demand Conference & Expo in Philadelphia.

Separately, 4over’s expansion into the large- and grand-format arena has begun. From its Glendale, CA base, it used a 16.5-foot HP Scitex XP5100 printer to produce banners for print distributor American Solutions for Business (ASB) at a business expo in Texas last week. Its grand4mat.com website is set to go live this week.

Megerdichian said to watch soon for a third-generation technology to boost his firm’s Internet presence. "We don’t want to lose business to the ‘online printers,’" he explains.

Very disappointed with the order process and the different Time zones! I have missed a few deadlines because of the time zone issues. At this point I have placed my last few orders with other vendors same quality without the ordering problems. Time to switch. I tried to work this out with customer service, very polite but not much help.

Great quality (500 line equivalent stochastic)- unbelievable prices. Customer service is decent although their return procedures place the burden on you to return misprinted jobs. Due to careful file preparation, we have avoided issues on 99% of job sent (150+ jobs) The strategy of opening so many plants seems to go against the concept of gang run printing. For each new plant opened, it would seem that a 100% increase in business would be required to fill all the new gan runs. The only benefit the multiple locations can offer is a 1 or possibly 2 day faster delivery time. I doubt there are that many new customers who will begin using them just for this one benefit. The NJ plant was supposed to be open in the 4th qtr. 0f 2008 - that didn't happen. I wish them the best.
