More than 20% of all U.S. online display ad impressions are now being produced by social networking sites, according to comScore Ad Metrix. And MySpace and Facebook each represent nearly 10% of total U.S. Online display ads delivered. comScore, Inc. is a leader in measuring the digital world released their study of U.S. online display advertising based on data compiled through June 2009.

The study shows that social networking has become one of the most popular online activities, accounting for a significant portion of the time Internet users spend online.

I have no illusion that social media is the begin all end all marketing solution for every company that needs to prop up its sales, just as doing nothing isn’t going to hurt your company either. But I’m pretty certain that if you do engage in it, you will see an improvement in traffic and that can lead to sales interest, which when you get right down to it, is the point of social media marketing.
