Something to Ease the Pain For Rockies Fans
October 28, 2007
Congrats to the Red Sox and their fans. Both put on an impressive display. For those of us from Colorado and others who were following the Cinderella story of the Rockies here’s a few anecdotes to lift your spirits.
For the first game of the series I was in a sports bar in Norwood MA in the heart of Red Sox country. I was in the Boston on business and decided it would be interesting to watch the Red Sox fans who some would say are the most loyal and enduring sports fans in the world.
Obviously Game 1 was a blow out and if I was asked to characterize the experience the first word to come to mind was unusual. Fans started appearing around 7 PM and by games start at 8:30 had tipped back a few. Outnumbered about 200 to one, and images of the celebration after beating the Yankees still
vivid, I was reluctant to cheer about anything. .
So I slumped down like an observer from
Wild Kingdom. Suffice it to say that the sounds,
songs and language was much more, well unusual and colorful, then I would have expected.
For the second game I was with our Canadian neighbors just over the boarder of Niagara Falls working with the Kwik Kopy Canada Franchise. But the most interesting part of the trip to me was the fact that the bridges were packed going from Canada to the US. Why? Because the Canadian dollar increased in value to $1.04 to the US $1.00. This has resulted in a flood of our northern neighbors coming over the border hoping to take advantage of the greater buying power. Am I the only one whole thinks this is a little
LOONEY.
