It’s Not Easy Being Green - 3

When discussing eco-friendly issues with printers, their reactions vary widely. Depending on if you’re a glass half empty or glass half filled person the reactions are either positive or negative. Here are a few representative reactions:
  • It’s the right thing to do!
  • It will cost more – will customers pay more?
  • It could be used to differentiate ourselves from the competition!
  • Will it become a competitive necessity?
  • Will it impact my print quality?
  • With new government regulations – its inevitable
Its not difficult to discover how printing companies are using this to differentiate themselves from the competition. Simply Google “Green Printing” and you will discover about 4 million hits. If you follow these links you can learn more about what other printers are offering and how they use it as a strategy to differentiate themselves.

In terms of government regulations you should read Mark Vrunos column from November 14, 2007. This is an alphabet soup of acronyms and information. Written by Pat Berger from Mercer Color it talks about the EPA's Control Techniques Guidelines, RACT (reasonably available control technology) and SCAMQD (South Coast Air Quality Management District). It suggests that an increase in government regulations is inevitable.

According to best selling author Tom Friedman who wrote the book "The World is Flat", "the term 'green' is the new red, white, and blue".
