The DRUPA 2008 song
March 10, 2008

I know you have been waiting. It’s finally out! The DRUPA 2008 song. Yes, the waiting is over.

When I attended DRUPA in 2000, I heard the DRUPA song (yes, there is one for each DRUPA) and stood in utter amazement marveling at the quality, the musicality, the sonority, the percussion, the beauty, of DRUPA 2000 in song. In 2004 I didn’t attend, but I was able to download the song, and to enjoy the show vicariously through the DRUPA song that year.

This year I will be attending the show, so to get psyched-up for the event, I have downloaded the MP3 version of the 2008 DRUPA song (it is also available as a Windows Media or RealPlayer “music video” both of which are so difficult to download that you might consider passing). I have listened to it several times now, charging myself with enthusiasm for the world’s largest printing trade show (note to DRUPA organizers: QuickTIme would work better). I'm relieved to know that I will be mingling with people “of all classes.”

The song starts off with a woman’s voice singing: “One world – one DRUPA-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa.” Truly breathtaking! Here are the complete lyrics:

One world, one DRUPA-pa pa pa pa pa…

One world, one DRUPA.

DRUPA – the number print media faire.

for the whole community…

of print media industry…

this faire will make you see…

how to command the future.

It’s a networking event…

forcing the upward trend…

a good mood stimulant…

this is our DRUPA!

Always in a pole position for half a century…

it’s a meeting of all classes…

of printing industry!

One world, one DRUPA!

it’s a place of global competence

One world, one DRUPA!

come and join this great experience

One world, one DRUPA!

it’s a place to learn and to compare

One world, one DRUPA!

the number one print media faire

just be there…

Oooooh, oooooh, oooh oooooh

Just be there!

Do PRINT and GraphEXPO have songs? Does PrintFest have a song? Come on guys!

I don’t think that GraphEXPO even has a mascot. I want you to know that I am working on correcting this oversight. I have commissioned the unauthorized GraphEXPO song, and I will get to work on a stuffed animal-like mascot for the show. I still have months to work on this.

oh dear, working on a tradefair for 2 weeks is painful enough - why do they torture us even more by playing this twice a day!?

Hi Nina,

I agree it is torturous. I have a solution, though! Every time I hear it, and it gets stuck in my head, I think of the theme song to "Jeopardy" and that makes the DRUPA song go away. It's like an antidote to a poison.

Twice a day? Wimps. We programmed a less techno-savvy colleague's phone with the song as his ringtone. And alarm tone. And we kept calling him. If it makes you feel any better, I can still sing the 1996 classic "Drupa, Drupa intenational printing a paper faire" by heart.

I knew I wasn't being devious enough! Now I have a goal. The DRUPA song will be the ring tone on Ken's phone any day now.

Thank you for the tip!

I have an even more devious idea... I can link it to this blog! That's easy. Far too easy...
