Slogans, Names, and Mottos
June 8, 2007
have a great slogan for a quick printer: “We ship a day early.”
Kind of makes you think, doesn’t it? One of my favorite clients, a printer in Maryland, uses “Impossible Deadlines Met.” When I told the owner how much I didn’t like it, she got all mad at me. The funniest and most disturbing slogan was not actually a slogan at all (which makes one wonder what it is doing in the same paragraph, but…), it is the name of a one time California printer called, “We Kill Trees Printing Company.” Yikes.
As for Mottos, I still say the best selling motto ever was the one from the now defunct UARCO Business Forms, “Solve the Problem, Earn the Order.” I love that and use it in my seminars all the time. I have yet to find an industry where that does not work.
What prompted all of this was an email I received late yesterday from a friend who started a company called Wicked Cheap Ads (www.wickedcheapads.com). He went to the graphic design department of his local high school and asked for help, then sent out the top ten best ideas to friends and relatives for their opinion. Mine was, “Craig, these all suck.” I hope he gets the implied meaning that I cleverly hid in the response.
Well, campers, that’s it for another week. I’ll blog you Monday.
Have a weekend.
Bill
