Calling from a Cell
June 27, 2007

I have an opinion that is apparently an East Coast thing. My Left Coast clients poo-poo this concept. This issue is whether to prospect from a cell phone. I say it is a bad idea. They disagree. Where do you stand on the matter?

Now, before you answer, here is my thinking: Calling me from a noisy cell phone and attempting to sell me something says, “You are not important enough for me to call from a land line.” For that matter, calling TO my cell phone isn’t such a grand idea either, but that is a bitch for another day’s blog. Hmmmm, will GAM allow me to write “bitch”? Let’s see if they actually proofread these things.

Anywho, my point is that there is a professionalism that is lost when you misuse modern technology. Okay, NOW you can render your opinion….

I don’t know, Bill, but I predict the answer will cut more across age lines than across East vs. West, on both counts. I’m 47, from the Midwest and agree with you.

Calling TO a cell phone could have an unintended downside if the recipient’s calling plan is based on so many minutes. In other words, just because you have that number doesn’t mean you have to use it.
