Comic Book Print Characters
January 4, 2008
I just finished writing the email that holds my weekly free audio sales tip (sign up at www.printtec.com) and I have to expand on the story….
Years ago, I had a client named Macy Flash. Macy was a second generation owner of a Kwik Kopy (since de-franchised, I think) in Shreeveport, LA. I always thought he had a comic-book kind of name and used to kid him about wearing a cape around the office. What is it about Louisianna names? I dated a fantastic girl in college from LSU named Terri Lynn Speed. Anywho…
Macy hired a rep and called to ask me to train him. His name was Flynn Dulle (pronounced, “Doo-lie”). Imagine that, Flynn Dulle working for Macy Flash. To counter, I assigned one of my nine sales coaches, a Texan living in New York City named Dee Ann Boyd. Quite the comic book start, eh? It gets better….
Flynn did well and afforded Macy the opportunity to hire a second rep (third, if you counted him). This time it was a woman named—wait for it—Betty Jo Jingles. Is that the best? Betty Jo Jingles and Flynn Dulle were being trained by Dee Ann Boyd to sell for Macy Flash. I am NOT making this up.
The audio tip has to do with the demise of Ms. Jingles. She crawled into her shell the moment things started going south, sales-wise. No word from Macy (though I see him here and there) or Flynn. The only thing that is left is the question that the audio sales tip asks, and the memory of a set of comic book characters who happened to be in printing.
