Howmydoin?
October 30, 2007

Remember Ed Koch?  Ed was the mayor of New York City during the 70s.  Picture your high school principal ruling over millions of people.  Got that vision in your head?  Now imagine that guy checking in with the students (his customers, so to speak) in the school auditorium and asking, “Howmydoin?”  That, my young reader, is exactly what he did time and time again.  The result?  He heard thunderous applause time and again.  The interesting thing, however, is that’s it wasn’t that he was doing THAT great a job that gained him such popularity.  It’s that he was humble enough to ask!  He stood behind the mike and checked in with his constituents.  He asked.  For the most part, it didn’t even matter that he listened.  The fact that he asked was enough.

Do you ask?  Do you check in with your clients to ensure that you are meeting their needs?  Are you staying relevant?  Are you SURE?  This is a great time of year to ask, kids.  In this day and age, you are as good as the last job you shipped in.  You might think you are doing a great job and that you are bulletproof in an account, but how do you know if you don’t ask?

How YOU doin?
