Cultured? Moi?
November 23, 2007

I have to share a funny story with you: Yesterday morning (Nov. 23) I was in Chatham, Massachusetts. As I walked towards a Dunkin Donuts, a young couple walked out with an older man behind them. The man had a tray of coffee and donuts and the door nearly slammed in his face as the kids didn't look back. The man grumbled, "Thanks a lot for holding the door, &%$#!!!" and walked towards me still angry. I said to him, "Don't let that ruin your day. Take a deep breath and have a happy Thanksgiving." He looked up at me and replied, "You must be one of those Channel 2 (PBS) watchers! All that feel good crap!" :-) I laughed and walked to the door.

The kid that had been so thoughtless had come back to the store and we reached the door together. I held the door for him and gestured him inside. Just then I heard a horn beep and turned around to see the older man giving me the Peace sign...or at least that is how I interpreted it until I shared the story with my 12 year old daughter who said, "Dad, that wasn't the peace sign. He was holding up two fingers as if to say, 'There you go again, Channel 2 watcher!'"  In both cases, I took it as a compliment!!!
