Coating for Digital Post Cards

November 18, 2008 InfoPrint Solutions Company®

Question:  We had a major customer complaint on a digital post card. The damage in the mail was extensive. We did apply a gloss coating. Our president says we are not at fault. Is he right?

Answer:  I looked at the post cards that did not go through the mail and ones that did. The gloss coating that you applied has a decent gloss but not a great gloss and the rub is fair at best. Most digital printers would apply a UV coating that has high rub. Our postal system handles huge volumes of mail at very fast speeds and will quickly abrade a post card that is not UV coated. You need to UV coat. Sorry.
