How can we prevent cracking at the fold when using the digital printing process?

Question:  How can we prevent cracking at the fold when using the digital printing process?

We have had six complaints this past month regarding cracking.  To solve the problem we hired temporary part-time help to hand fold.  This is expensive, slow, and not that accurate.  What other options do I have?

Answer:  There are a number of machines on the market designed to crease and do a "soft" fold that generally will not crack.  Cracking at the fold, however, may be a paper issue as well as a digital printing issue.  Most of these machines are marketed as Digital Creasers or Digital Creaser/Folders.

We bought a TriCreaser scoring wheel for our B20 folder and never have a problem with cracking anymore. They're not cheap—$,1300? for the wheel and various inserts. You install it on your own folder. John Santa
