The brothers Williamson wouldn’t reveal details of how it was done, respecting confidentiality for the client’s project. But GAM confirmed that
Ameristar Casinos’ tabloid-sized annual report in “black-and-white” is actually a
quadratone printed CMYK to capture subtleties of midtones and glowing highlights. (It wasn’t so hard: they are publicly traded.) It won a PIA/GATF Benny Award in 2006, in the category
They Said It Couldn’t Be Done. But we didn’t write about it before, because
they said it couldn’t be told.
And Why Do They Say That?
“It’s a modern interpretation of an Ansel Adams silverprint,” says Lee Horswill, Ameristar creative director. The effect on the over-sized (13¾×21½´´) piece garnered Williamson Printing Corp., Dallas, the Benny last fall.
