Hi-rez Mug Printing!

Of all the freebie giveaways I took home from Graph Expo, a coffee mug from Pitney Bowes is the most print-relevant. I stuck around until 3:30 the final afternoon to try to win a Nintendo Wii game system (for my kids, of course!). I didn't win, but I did get the mug. Big deal, I know. But when I peered inside, there were production notes. What the ... !!!
No wonder PB joined the Print Council this week! Turns out the Navy-blue, tinted mug features a 4-color process design that was first printed on paper. Then, under a process of heat and pressure, the design was transferred and absorbed by the mug's polymer coating.
Imbibing from ceramic mugs is the green way to drink java. Plus, this mug is microwave safe—a good thing considering there were snow flurries spotted in Chicago today.
