Technology from Seattle-based Earth Class Mail says it offers an enhancement, to the delivery of printed direct mail, as it enables individuals and businesses with to read images of unopened postal mail online. Printed mail is received at the Earth Mail center, where it is digitally scanned and presented to clients for online visual review. Customers log-in, view mail and decide what they want to do with each piece. For example, they can choose which pieces to have opened and scanned so they can read them online, or recycle, archive or have sent to them physically forwarded via U.S. Mail. The firm says it's the only such national online postal-mail delivery service. The U.S. Postal Service is paying attention to its service, as is the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC). Cameron Powell, VP of strategic development at Earth Class Mail, on May 21 will address questions about the USPS's use of alternative or supplemental forms of mail delivery at a PRC testimony in Flagstaff, AZ. Congress has asked the PRC for a report on the USPS mail monopoly.
