Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA), Würzburg, Germany, is taking over from Scitex Corporation Ltd. of Israel all development, marketing, production, and service activities related to the 74 Karat digital press. Karat Digital Press GmbH, which employs 130 people, becomes a subsidiary of KBA. In the pact, Scitex is to gain "future performance-related payments."
Komori Corporation of Tokyo has bought the web offset press division of Toshiba Machinery Co., Ltd., Numazu, Japan. Komori America Corporation, Rolling Meadows, Ill., will manage the sales and service functions for North America.
London Litho, Lincolnwood, Ill., the Midwest's largest reseller and integrator of imaging systems, prepress and pressroom consumables, and value-added services for the graphic arts, has formed The Opus Group, a global consulting division, headed by director David Williams, with specialists in color management, the pressroom, and electronic engineering.
John Warnock, 60, has retired from Adobe Systems, Inc., San Jose, Calif. He will remain as chairman of the $1.3 billion software company along with his fellow co-founder, Charles Geschke, who retired last year. Bruce Chizen serves as president and chief executive.
Prism Group, London, has acquired MicroInk, Wareham, Mass., to create what is described as the world's leading provider of integrated management solutions for the graphic arts. Carol Anderson, formerly head of MicroInk, was named chief executive of Prism USA.
The Web Offset Association, Alexandria, Va., will hold its 49th annual conference on May 6-9 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C.
