TPG 2001: Poised in Paris

About 75,000 people will travel to the city of lights next month for France's largest graphic arts trade event.

Staff -- graphic arts online, 4/1/2001

Over the course of six days in mid-May, roughly 75,000 visitors spanning the globe are expected to flood Halls 4 and 5 of the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center, Paris, France to attend TPG 2001, the International Printing Technologies Exhibition.

From May 14-19, the event will provide show attendees a record of innovations that emerged during 2000 as well as an overview of new technological developments in the graphic arts industry, according to Imex Management, Inc., which is promoting TPG.

Show organizer Exposium expects that roughly 25% of TPG 2001's visitors will come from outside France among other European countries (70%), North and South America (20%), and Asia (10%).

Imex Management officials say that approximately 730 graphic arts vendors—almost half of which are based outside France—will showcase their latest developments in printing, prepress, and finishing equipment as well as print media and consumables, manufacturing, distribution, and communications and IT platforms.

Show organizers report that the bulk of booths on the show floor will comprise exhibitors of printing equipment, followed by design and prepress and finishing/production/mailing services.

Spotlight on packaging

In addition to myriad graphic arts solutions on display at the show, special focus also will be given to packaging printing techniques. Further, on May 16-18, TPG 2001 will host a UV Technology Forum to address the increasing use of ultraviolet technologies in printing to help streamline production as well as benefit the environment.

Also highlighted at two theme "villages" at the center of the exhibition will be numerous emerging technologies in digital photography and image acquisition as well as data storage and transmission. Additionally, a forum area dedicated to debate "Tomorrow's Writing World, or What Universal Medium?" will be offered.

TPG 2001's "Digit@l Business Center," located at the heart of the show floor, will be set up to provide a forum for addressing essential issues and generating appropriate solutions to the problems raised by data transmission, process, and storage.

Here, international information, research, advisory, and technological press agency Ifra, a TPG 2001 partner, will conduct three seminars on the digital transmission of ads, color quality management, and the security and integrity of digital workflows.

Four-year rotation

TPG—which in the past had been held once every nine years but beginning in 2001 will take place every four years—is part of the Eumaprint calendar of events that includes five other international exhibitions: Drupa (Germany), GEC (Italy), Graphispag (Spain), Ipex (United Kingdom), and Print (United States).

Imex Management says that TPG 2001 is expected to be one of the largest graphic arts industry trade shows held this year. TPG will next take place in 2005.

Show hours for TPG 2001 are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, with the exception of Tuesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 17, where they will be extended until 9 p.m.

Further information about the event can be found on the Web at www.tpg2001.com. Slated to appear on the Web site are previews of some of the new products that will be on display at the show, as well as an exhibitor list and attendee registration information.
