Just 20 months after debuting its high-volume, black-and-white Digimaster 9110 network imaging system, Heidelberg Digital L.L.C. shipped its 2,000th unit. Last June, the company announced that it was shipping its 1,000th system in the first 12 months of availability.
With such an accelerated rate of acceptance, says Heidelberg Digital, the product has already achieved more than half of the company's market share goal: 30% of the machines in the high-volume category (at least 90 images per minute) by 2005.
The Digimaster system is employed in high-volume printers sold by Canon/Ikon, Danka, Heidelberg, and IBM.
"We're thrilled to be making this announcement so soon after reaching last year's milestone," says Wolfgang Pfizenmaier, Heidelberg Digital chief executive. "It's clear from how rapidly we've reached this goal that Heidelberg is gaining further acceptance as a digital high-volume printing solutions provider and is excelling at meeting the needs of customers worldwide."
Major Digimaster customers include Kinko's and Sir Speedy, the largest print-for-pay providers in the world.
Heidelberg Digital, which is based in Rochester, N.Y., has placed the system in print shops around the world, including Australia, Canada, central Europe, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United States.
The Digimaster 9110 prints text and graphics at 600 dpi at a rate of 110 images per minute. Recent enhancements include new document mastering and production software; a postprocess inserter for adding preprinted color pieces to black-and-white documents; true 600-dpi production scanner; and a perfect binder.
