Competition Heats Up

-- graphic arts online, 3/1/2001

According to several vendors, the next few months may see the introduction of two-up and four-up metal CTP platesetters with price tags that are closer to those of equivalent-size imagesetters. This equipment, they add, would satisfy the need of smaller printers for higher-quality production without the use of film or polyester plates.

At the same time, some industry observers feel that there's a practical size limit to handling polyester plates in an imagesetter, which they say might drive eight-up CTP plate production toward metal and away from polyester.
