Synthetic Paper Launched
By Lisa Cross -- Graphic Arts Online, 7/1/2008
Agfa says it leveraged its expertise in film and coating processes to develop a polyester-based synthetic paper for use in offset printing and UV inkjet applications.
Called Synaps, the substrate is available in a wide range of weights and is suitable for a variety of applications, including harsh outdoor environments. Agfa says Synaps is resistant to water, tearing and UV light.
The paper is produced via a patented manufacturing process that creates voids in the polyester base to make it white and opaque.
The material is coated on both sides with a special ink-receptive layer to enhance its printability and offer the look and feel of luxury paper. agfa.com
