Enhancing Print Packaging

-- Graphic Arts Online, 6/1/2008

Dusseldorf saw another show depart just four weeks ago, Interpack, with Heidelberg, manroland and KBA among the familiar names exhibiting at drupa as well. Heidelberg debuted an inkjet unit, Linoprint (see May FrontLine), while KBA-Metronic, a division that makes offset printers for DVDs and CDs, was on display. manroland stressed the value-added capabilities its presses can impart to packaging, including enhancements such as varnish, inks and (below) cold foil with its InlineFoiler Prindor. The pressmaker took part in an Innovationparc Packaging display and, with partners, demonstrated opportunities in packaging design and carton production to attract consumers' attention. A product sample was produced especially for the trade fair involving the entire value-added chain. manroland is partnering with EskoArtwork and Bobst in packaging initiatives as well.
