Stahlfolder KH 82 debuts at drupa with an automatic cross-fold unit that makes ready in two minutes on repeat jobs, says Heidelberg. Its top speed rises to 30,000 cycles per hour, with net output of more than 1,000+ sheets per hour. It lends itself to 7,000-15,000 sheet runs, but its stability suits it for long-run book production. New features include Web-based Remote Service and workflow integration via new Prinect Postpress Manager. The cross-fold servo-powered knife performed 195 million+ cycles in testing. All settings (height, incline, etc.) can be stored; 70 of 86 manual steps required in its predecessor KH 78 have been eliminated or automated. Pneumatically raised front edge wheels pull incoming sheets up against the stop and end rebounding. More www.us.heidelberg.com

NELA 3-Point Punch/Bender and Plate Distribution Unit has been installed at Valassis' Anderson Printing Div. in Livonia, MI. This RAO-M system handles multiple plate sizes at Valassis, which has found demand to quickly store and retrieve plates with minimal operator intervention increased dramatically after it acquired ADVO. NELA (in Hall 8a at drupa) provided an inline punch/bending, storage and retrieval system capable of automatically loading bent plates into plate storage carts. It transports plates from the processor into the bender for one-step punching and bending, and then on to the three-bay Plate Distribution Unit. The automatic plate handling machine transports plates into carts docked right to the unit, or undocked and rolled to presses for plate mounting. More www.nela-usa.com
Xerox 8390 90´´ wide-format printers are compatible with a range of media types and produce vibrant graphics on indoor and outdoor point-of-purchase displays, banners, life-size photos and floor graphics. The printer uses piezo-electric drop-on-demand inkjet heads with 360 nozzle heads per ink channel to deliver higher firing frequencies resulting in faster print speeds. Its Dynamic Variable Dot Size Technology enables superior image quality and delivers lower ink usage versus fixed-dot inkjet technology, says Xerox. Eight ink channels also permit 4-or 6-color ink set choices. Mild-solvent inks produce prints that can last up to four years without lamination. Print resolutions from 360 to 1,440 dpi run at typical-quality production speeds from 162 to 215 sq.ft/hour. More www.xerox.com

EFI PrintFlow will be shown at drupa in its latest iterations for connecting the entire workflow. The EFI Print MIS Connected Workflow Strategy links every part of the print production flow chain to optimize equipment use, thereby increasing capacity, throughput and on-time job delivery. PrintFlow automatically locates the optimal job path based on available equipment, current workload and the status of other job delivery schedules. A real-time Gantt Chart shows all plant jobs in a single window and allows users to manipulate job schedules, and enables operators to create summaries, tasks, links and time lines. An add-on module to other EFI Print MIS solutions, it integrates into Hagen, Logic and PSI for data flow across printing operations. www.efi.com
