Miami Printer Ups Capacity.
By Lisa Cross -- Graphic Arts Online, 4/1/2008
Original Impressions, Miami, installed a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL105 in its 68,000-sq.ft. facility, doubling its press capacity. The installation required reinforcing the floors to support the 60- ton unit. The press's aerodynamic sheet travel technology yields production speeds of 18,000 sph. The press features a HydroColor dampening unit and a 6-color aqueous coating unit to provide premium gloss effects.
CEO Roland Garcia, Sr., says the press offers a high level of automation and efficiency. He also says the press supports his firm's focus on green printing.
The blanket and impression cylinders' cloth wash-up system uses a minimal amount of solvent and water, says the pressmaker. According to Heidelberg, the press can reduce CO2 emissions generated by material consumption and the printing processes by more than 5%, paper waste by up to 80% and energy consumption by more than 15%.
Original Impressions received triple chain of custody certification from three internationally recognized and accepted forest certification programs: the Forest Stewardship Council, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.
“Our customers increasingly ask us to help them make responsible purchasing decisions that are best for the environment,” says Garcia. “We have identified a number of ways in which to help meet these goals, while at the same time looking to the long-term future of our environment.”
