Denver Newspaper Plant to Close

The Denver Newspaper Agency will borrow $150 million to consolidate its two printing plants and pay for new presses and equipment. The agency will close a plant owned by The Denver Post and move all printing operations to a 400,000-sq.ft. plant owned by the Rocky Mountain News.MediaNews Group, which owns 50% of the Denver Newspaper Agency along with E.W. Scripps and publishes The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, disclosed its plans in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The filing didn't include any information about when the new equipment would be purchased.
The publisher currently has a mix of late '80s and early '90s-vintage Goss Colorliners and HO presses, reports Newspapers & Technology. The agency also prints a regional edition of The New York Times and other area publications.
