FRONTLINE: Web Press Showcase

At Graphics of the Americas

By Lisa Cross -- Graphic Arts Online, 2/1/2008

Goss International will highlight the benefits of its range of web offset solutions for newspaper and commercial web production in the Latin America market at Graphics of the Americas (GoA), Feb. 28-March 1, in Miami. The pressmaker will showcase its single-width Community SSC press, Goss Magnum 4 newspaper press, M-500, M-600, M-800 (shown) and Sunday press.

The M-800 press, the newest addition to the Goss commercial product line, will have its first installation at Imprenta Ajusco in Mexico City in 2008. The 4x4 press incorporates already-proven design elements including inking and dampening systems, multi-drive, inline cylinder stacks and bearer-less cylinders from the Goss Sunday press series.

Presstek (Booth 1090) will show its 52DI digital offset press, its chemistry-free Vector TX52 CTP system, and its high resolution polyester DPM platesetter.

The trade show, with nearly 400 exhibitors, will feature four Adobe-focused events—The InDesign, Pixel, Vector and Acrobat conferences—for users of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Acrobat. “Last year's Creative Suite Conference was a huge attraction at Graphics of the Americas, drawing hundreds of creative professionals,” says George Ryan, president and CEO of the Printing Assn. of Florida, organizer for Graphics of the Americas. He predicts these Adobe conferences alone will draw close to 1,000 registrants.

GofA will also feature a two-day brand protection conference moderated by Richard Warner, author of Introduction to Security Printing. Brand security and protection are top concerns for consumer packaged goods. “Counterfeiting these goods is estimated to be a $500 billion per year industry worldwide,” says Ryan. The conference will offer eight sessions covering secure substrates, inks and finishing, holograms and RFID. Two case-study sessions will review counterfeit examples and how they could have been deterred. graphicsoftheamericas.com
