Quack Anti-marking Nets received their distinctive name because oftheir propensity to repel ink “like water off a duck's back,” says vendor Fiberweb Graphics. The company says they deliver optimum anti-marking performance, stay clean over a long life and are easy to install. The nets also help reduce paper waste. Quack anti-marking nets are flat non-stretch nets—pink nonwoven nets installed tight to lie flat against the cylinder. Vintage version Quack anti-marking nets differ in that they are rippled stretch nets. Burgundy in color, these woven nets are installed and perform similar to traditional nets. fiberwebgraphics.com
Secap SA5000 inkjet addresser and barcode printer features a light-mode selection for reduced ink usage, a USB/Ethernet port for easier connections and faster print job downloads, says Secap. It delivers clear address blocks, message lines, graphics, and barcodes on various sized media up to ¼´´ in thickness, according to the firm. Heavy-duty spring loaded rollers reduce jams. A PC-based host controller allows maximum control from the computer, displaying piece count, ink levels and more. In light mode, it cuts ink consumption but holds quality. secap.com

Phaser Solid Ink, Xerox's latest generation technology, became available in September when the firm launched its Phaser 8860 color printer and the Phaser 8860MFP color multifunction printer. The solid ink technology makes color printing as affordable as black and white, says Xerox. Nearly five years in development, the new crayon-like ink sticks have been developed to last longer than ever before, so printing on the Phaser 8860 is two times less expensive than equivalent laser printers from other makers. The ink sticks produce 90% less waste than comparable color laser products and melt at a lower temperature, reducing energy consumption by 14%. xerox.com
Muller Martini 3502 Splitting Saw and matching turnover belt 3605 increase efficiency in two-up perfect binding production. The splitting saw can be adjusted fully automatically from a touch screen, without the need for tools. The consistent delivery quality of the splitting cut means the subsequent three-knife trimmer sets up quickly. Long saw blade life results from integrated blade siliconization and a large format range. A new turnover belt can be directly mounted onto the splitting saw. Format changes and switches between turnover and continuous production are completed fully automatically. The new turnover belt can also be used as a free-standing unit in a delivery section. mullermartini.com

Solvent Recyclers from MAN Roland are in use in over 10,000 plants, automating the solvent recovery process. Press crews simply switch out drums of dirty solvent for containers filled automatically with recovered solvent, and occasionally remove solids from the device. Its microprocessor controlled operation combines the simple mechanics of heating to vaporize contaminated solvent, leaving behind the dirty residue. A condenser cools the vapor back to liquid and a separator removes water from the dampener system. Clean solvent then flows into a drum. manroland.us.com
MacDermid Courier and Cordia are neutral and positive feeding offset blankets (not shown) that feature new rubber and foam components in 3- and 4-ply calipers. Beta testing was conducted at Newsday, Long Island, NY, among other printers, on multiple configurations of newspaper and commercial presses. A wide range of fountain solutions and inks were tested to address blanket-related problems such as gauge loss, short life, damaged surface rubber, solvent wicking, poor solid ink lay-down and center line separation on double-wide newspaper presses. macdermid.com
