Diamond Packaging Launches Eco-Initiative
-- Graphic Arts Online, 12/1/2007
Diamond Packaging's 2008 promotional calendar features its commitment to green practices. Last month the company (www.diamondpackaging.com) launched its Green Box initiative, a comprehensive approach to minimize the environmental impact of its products by focusing on the designs, materials and methods used in its production process.
The Rochester, NY-based firm also announced it will procure 100% of its electrical energy from wind power.
Diamond reports its design process incorporate tools such as Wal-Mart's package modeling software and ArtiosCAD for structural design, to make greener packaging.
“Wal-Mart's Packaging Scorecard tool has helped put the concept of sustainable packaging in the forefront of many companies' and consumers' minds, and thus has been a key driver in trying to understand what sustainability truly is,” says marketing director Dennis Bacchetta. “Several accounts have requested information on our experience with the Scorecard tool, and on our efforts to design more eco-friendly packaging.”
