From Graph Expo's Show Daily

EPG (Booth 2661) is exhibiting KeyColor C, a system that provides digital control of fountain ink keys from a central ink desk to speed makeready and reduce waste. Combined with AutoSet presetting software, the system utilizes data from an imagesetter or CTP system to preset all ink keys. The KeyColor C also interfaces with color-measuring devices to provide closed-loop color control. www.epg-inc.com

Autobond Inc. (Booth 213) is launching the Mini 105 TPHS, a one- and two-sided thermal laminator for sheets 8.5×11´´ to 41×30´´ at speeds up to 265 fpm. The rising pile, back separation Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 streamfeed head and vacuum feed table allow continuous feeding. The Mini 105 handles media ranging from 70-lb. to 24-pt. www.autobondlaminating.com

Böwe Bell + Howell (BBH) (Booth 600) is highlighting the BBH 400 inserting system, a modular product with the integration of BICOS (Böwe Integrated Control Operation System) and the KOMPOS modular control system. Operating at speeds up to 20,000 envelopes per hour, the BBH 400 supports #10, 6×9´´ and #14 envelopes. Its rotary feeding technology gives operators the capability to process a wide array of insert types, enabling more configurations that can be matched to application needs and budgets. www.bowebellhowell.com

Fujifilm (Booths 4381, 4480) is highlighting its C-fit Image Intelligence software for automating the analysis, optimization and conversion of digital images from RGB into print-ready CMYK. C-fit is a hot folder-based image and color server that processes large quantities of digital images with minimal user intervention. It trains the software to view pictures the way that people do, recognizing and adjusting for image types (faces, indoor/outdoor scenes, etc.) and memory colors that are important to the way a picture looks. Besides its primary image enhancement and conversion functions, C-fit also analyzes and converts images in a PDF document so that entire pages can be optimized for particular printing conditions or standards. www.fujifilmgs.com

Toyo Ink America (Booth 455) is introducing NNK Doctor Blades. Baked flat, not in coil form, to prevent curling, and then cooled to achieve a hardness of (Hv) 900-1,000, the SepaCera Sharp doctor blade edges reportedly offer sharp, even contact with the cylinder surface and reduce the risk of blade streaking, chattering, hazing and fogging. This special baking process provides improved dispersion of an increased amount of ceramic powder, and the width of the ceramic plating (not the thickness) has been reduced in half to 0.89´´. According to the company, the SepaCera Sharp doctor blades last several times longer than other doctor blades. www.toyoink.com

Punch Graphix Americas (Booth 2257) is showcasing the Xeikon 6000 digital color press (not shown), which delivers more than 160 letter-size ppm and a duty cycle of 3.7 million ppm. The Xeikon 6000 handles paper stock from 27-lb. text to 122-lb. cover and runs a wide array of substrates, including paperboard. Being webfed, it has format flexibility running substrate widths up to 20´´ and unlimited, flexible image length. In addition, it prints on both sides of the substrate in a single pass. The Xeikon 6000 includes the X-800 Digital Front-End, which—RIPing at 800 Mpixels per second—is capable of processing print jobs incorporating graphics with variable data from more than 1 million records. www.xeikon.com

EFI (Booth 3000) is releasing Fiery System 8 Release 2. The Visual Workflow feature optimizes productivity by providing job progress at a glance and addresses a wide range of operator expertise. The Fiery also features variable-data printing, and with ColorWise, an in-RIP color management system, EFI says the Fiery delivers color that is consistent across applications, computer platforms, color spaces and color file formats. www.efi.com

Spiel Associates (Booth 3661) is demonstrating the fully automatic Rilecart B-599 double loop wire binder, capable of binding 4,000 books per hour. The operator drops a book on the conveyor and the B-599 does the rest—inserting the wire, crimping it and delivering the book onto a conveyor. The system binds books from 3.25× 4´´ up to 17.5×19.5´´, and thicknesses ranging from 5/16´´ to 1´´. Twin spools allow for quick changeover. An inline punching section is optional, and a calendar machine is also available. www.spielassociates.com

EFI (Booth 3000) is releasing PrinterSite Fulfillment version 3.5, for Web-based fulfillment ordering. PrinterSite's interface has been visually upgraded, says the company, and enables ordering pull-from-inventory, print-on-demand and variable-data print (VDP) items. Merchandising features now include rotating banner ads and category graphics. The new Auto-Fills function lets users store frequently used information in an online database, and customers can now compose VDP items using a library of pre-stored images and graphics. www.efi.com

Heidelberg USA (Booth 1200) will showcase Anicolor, its keyless inking unit that it says combines the advantages of flexo with offset. An engraved anilox roller transfers ink onto the plate form roller before it goes onto a standard offset plate. Both the screen and form rollers are full-format size, which Heidelberg says eliminates ghosting. The amount of ink transferred can be adjusted by changing the temperature of the screen roller—no ink keys needed. In a color-managed environment, the company reports typical 4-color makereadies take seven minutes and between five to 15 sheets to reach sellable quality. www.us.heidelberg.com

La Crosse Litho Supply, LLC (Booth 4868) is showing Alwan's new CMYK Optimizer version 3, a preflighting, standardization and optimization solution for CMYK data. Alwan says the CMYK Optimizer achieves optimal print quality and proof matching while greatly reducing ink costs. Version 3 enables prepress operators to implement TVI (Tonal Value Increase), NPDC (Neutral Print Density Curve) or ICC-based methods to calibrate presses according to ISO 12647-2/3 and GRACoL specifications. Also, users can now enhance individual images embedded in a PDF file. www.lacrosselitho.com, www.alwancolor.com

GTI Graphic Technology (Booth 5227) is displaying its PDV Professional Desktop family of desktop color viewing systems. The PDV color viewers offer optional side walls for enhanced control of ambient lighting conditions. For critical color comparisons between hard copy and a computer monitor, the PDV series offers an optional dimming feature. The company says all models are easily folded for transport to client locations. PDV Professional Desktop viewers use GTI's proprietary Graphiclite Color Viewing Lamps for color rendition and color accuracy. www.gtilite.com

Nordson (Booth 2029) is highlighting its hot-melt application system with the EP48V application head for bonding with polyurethane adhesives—an alternative to the open-wheel application method. The EP48V applies adhesive directly to the spine of the book, and better wetting of the paper fibers ensures good adhesion with high pull values and improved lay-flat properties. The positive adhesive application pressure and clean cutoff enable production speeds up to 18,000 books per hour. With exact spine preparation, a coating thickness of 0.01´´ can be reproduced. Other savings result from using a tank system, which, unlike a drum system, does not leave waste. www.nordson.com

Fujifilm Graphic Systems (Booths 4381, 4480) offers Vybrant roll-to-roll solvent printers in three models: 1906 (76´´ media width); 2606 (102´´); and 3606 (130´´). The company says the heavy-duty media unwinding/winding system can handle materials over 300 lbs. for hours of printing. Automatic head height adjustment lets the Vybrant print on substrates from 2.5 mm to 4.5 mm in thickness, and variable pressure rollers accept flexible media up to 10´ wide. A capping station allows ink to stay overnight in the print heads to assist printers with faster start-up of volume printing the next morning. www.fujifilmgs.com

GBC (Booth 2411) is unveiling its 8500HS Cyclone Series single-sided thermal laminators, which run 12,000 28×40´´ sph. Available models include the 8556HS, 8544HS and 8531HS, for maximum sheet lengths of 56´´, 44´´ and 31´´, respectively, and widths up to 44´´. A deep carrier plate allows whole skids of paper to be loaded and unloaded by forklift. The 8500HS also has an inline separator and stacker so a single operator can run each job from start to finish. www.gbc.com
