AWARDCENTRAL: GAM As Print Lab
Staff Report -- graphic arts online, 9/1/2007
In June 2005, Graphic Arts Monthly launched something new: using its cover to demonstrate, even experiment with, new production techniques. These manufactured cover projects, sponsored by a variety of industry suppliers and produced in partnership with some of the nation's leading print firms, have helped expand the horizons of what can be accomplished on press. KBA was the first to partner with GAM on a cover, and 13 other projects have since been executed, gaining notoriety not only within the U.S., but stimulating excitement and media reports around the globe: August 2005 was featured on a History Channel documentary. December 2006 was included in a July marketing report by the New York Times. A Reuters story on the March 2007 cover was featured on the Jumbotron in Times Square. Last month, GAM received an award for graphic excellence (left) from the American Society of Business Publication Editors for the October 2006 cover. (Readers interested in sponsoring and supplying a cover for GAM can submit proposals to the editors.)
