The Powhatan, VA, consortium of privately held print firms, founded in 1998, exercises group purchasing of equipment and paper, and group sales under its IPW Communications arm. Commercial printer LaVigne Inc., Worcester, MA, is the first company to fully implement the new Kodak EMS Business Software, powered by Epicor. The sheetfed and digital printing company is running its entire operation--front office, back office and production--on the software, based on Epicor's robust manufacturing enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
NASCAR driver Ryan Newman, whose Penske team is sponsored by Kodak, moved closer to a berth in the 12-driver, 10-race playoff known as the Chase for the Nextel Cup Championship when he finished well Sunday in the Watkins Glen (NY) International race.

H&H Printing, Metaire, LA, exhorts print buyers to use local printers in Louisiana's recovering business community, in a story in American Chronicle, an online news service based in Beverly Hills.
The head of the Chinese toy manufacturer at the center of a huge recall by the U.S. Consumer Products Commission killed himself over the weekend. China had temporarily banned exports by his company because toys made for Mattel were found to have been made with paint containing excessive amounts of lead. Earlier this year the commission recalled several print jobs deemed as choking hazards. (e-GAM 6/27/07)

Printer Sharon Newman, president of Action Envelope, Lindenhurst, NY, was appointed to a three-year term with the Small Business Advisory Council of the NY Federal Reserve Bank. She is the only woman on the nine-member council, which includes small business owners from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Council members are selected based on their role as leaders in their business communities and must have a minimum of $10 million in annual revenue.
