Heads Up: New Vehicle Wrap Takes Shape

By Lisa Cross -- graphic arts online, 4/1/2007

Vehicle wrapping of cars, trucks, vans and trailers is a booming ad medium. The Traffic Audit Bureau for Media Measurement (www.tabonline.com) reports that vehicle advertising can generate from 30,000 to 70,000 sightings per day.

Also, the group reports that the cost of mobile advertising is lower than a billboard in a high-traffic area.

Avery Dennison released its patent-pending Easy Apply RS line of vehicle wrap materials (shown) that are easy to slide, reposition and remove, says the company. The material's air egress channels reportedly allow it to hug surfaces as if it were made from them.

Installers simply drape the printed vinyl material over the vehicle and position it. If it's not exactly where the installer wants it, they can reposition it.

The substrate has a glossy, paint-like appearance that is optimized for digital printing and is supported by an extensive online ICC Color Profile library. The company says Easy Apply is the fastest-applying film in the industry, 15% faster than the leading competitor. Avery guarantees removability of Easy Apply RS for the life of the graphic, up to five years.

Avery says it is offering printers a free roll of the substrate and $50 off their first order at www.easyapplyrs.averygraphics.com .
