The European Rotogravure Assn. presented Max Daetwyler Corp. with an Innovation Award for its Starbase Cylinder System. The system is a manufacturing process to produce lightweight, polymer-based gravure cylinders. The company says the advantages of the Starbase cylinders over steel versions include: substantial cost savings, reduced shipping and handling costs, storage flexibility, quicker set-up times and easier handling and press loading. Also, existing cylinders can be resized with Starbase, rather than needing to purchase new cylinder bases. Existing chrome and copper plating and finishing equipment can be used with the system.
The award was presented at the ERA Packaging Conf. held Nov. 14-15 in Kiev, Ukraine. The ERA was founded in 1956 and has developed into a leading gravure forum. www.daetwyler.com
