IDEAlliance Certifies 17 individuals as GRACoL

By Lisa Cross -- graphic arts online, 2/1/2006

The International Digital Enterprise Alliance (IDEAlliance) certified 17 individuals as GRACoL (General Requirements and Applications for Com-mercial Offset Lithography) experts on its new G7 Calibration, Printing and Proofing color methodology.

Throughout 2004 and 2005, the GRACoL Committee developed an unambiguous description of how good commercial printing “appears” to the eye on a No. 1 sheet and developed new calibration and process control methods that make use of spectrophotometry and CTP to enable printers to quickly and accurately replicate visual appearance on any press or proofing system. The final data from the press runs used to develop the methodology—including a formal definition of gray balance along with target neutral print density curves for 3-color gray and black—will be published as the GRACoL 7 Specification later this year.

The following have been G7 certified: Bruce Bayne, Alder Technology;  Joseph Paskey, Cathay America;  Dan Gillespie, Colorgeek;  Keith Duchene, Gans Ink & Supply; Peter Weishaar Kodak; Hal Stratton, MAN Roland; David Piccus, Piccus 4 Color;. Vincent Sita, Rex Three;  Jim Rich, Rich & Associates; Steve Suffoletto, RIT; Ron Ellis, Ron Ellis Consulting; Frank Renfro, Sappi; Glenn Andrews , Schawk; Steve Smiley and Bob Clarke, Vertis; and Terry Wyse, WyseConsul.
