Printers Set Political Agenda
-- graphic arts online, 2/1/2001
Printing company executives met recently in Savannah, Ga. to determine the political priorities that have the best chance of succeeding in the next Congress. The meeting, held every two years, is organized by the Printing Industries of America's Government Affairs department to set the direction of the industry's lobbying efforts.
Here are the top five legislative issues:
- Oppose legislation that would hinder the ability of employers to provide affordable health benefits to their employees.
- Oppose implementation of OSHA's ergonomics program standard.
- Support repeal or phase-out of the death tax.
- Support legislation to reduce the depreciation schedule for computer and computer-related equipment from five years to two.
- Oppose any effort to expand coverage under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
