Digital Art Exchange (DAX), Inc., Boston, has added a shopping service to its PrintPlanet.com eCommunities forum, giving subscribers the opportunity to browse through different "stores" for products they may have heard about or discussed on one of the PrintPlanet forums.
The one-year-old PrintPlanet.com eCommunities-which recently added an XML forum to its list of 15, with topics ranging from digital asset management to production workflow issues-now has 25,000 subscribers who share and discuss technical information, product information, and tips and techniques, as well as business practices and other related topics.
The new Shopping Galaxy is said to offer "focused, intelligent selection" of graphic arts-specific products and supplies from only well-known, trusted industry vendors who become Shopping Galaxy distribution partners through strategic alliances with PrintPlanet.com.
Say company officials, subscribers will be able to search the entire "galaxy" of stores for a specific vendor, product, or both, then review the products and purchase items at a competitive cost without having to leave the site.
The first vendor to sign on as a strategic distribution partner is Graphic Arts Supplies.com, Inc., a Tustin, Calif.-based on-line store offering everything from major ink, paper, and film brands to obscure, hard-to-find printing and press accessories.
