Big LIFE Relaunch

In October, Quad/Graphics and R.R. Donnelley began printing 12 million weekly copies of Time, Inc.'s iconic LIFE magazine, which has been resurrected as a weekend magazine. LIFE is distributed in more than 70 Friday newspapers across the U.S. Called "one of the most ambitious launches of a weekly magazine" by Susan Popler-Roy, LIFE's director of operations and technology, the revamped title becomes Time's largest-circulation weekly.
As part of multi-year agreements, Donnelley is responsible for 5.4 million west coast and southeast copies of LIFE, which it produces at gravure plants in Reno, NV and Spartanburg, SC; Quad/Graphics is reproducing the remaining 6.6 million copies at its facilities in Lomira, WI, Martinsburg, WV and Oklahoma City, OK.
LIFE's new life comes after a four-year hiatus. First published in 1936 (and printed by Donnelley), the magazine became renowned for its photojournalism. First "retired" in '72, LIFE came back as a monthly six years later.
