What we want

It's too bad that Graphic Arts Monthly couldn't stick to printing-related issues and stay out of politics. I don't necessarily care about what PIA thinks or predicts on who our next president will be. I'm not sure how many others feel that way either. With the "polls" showing the race being as close as it is, was it so important a piece of news that it was worth offending the roughly 50% of people in the other camp. Let's talk DI, processless plates, stochastic and other topics that a "trade publication" should be talking about.

About letterpress

Our company, Toray, is a major manufacturer of printing plates. We are expanding our sales in the U.S. and Canada, and are looking for a marketing report in the field of Letterpress (Label and Dry Offset Printing).

Ulyana Solomko , Toray, New York, NY

Now a specialty known as "Commercial Printing, Other," letterpress is tracked in the latest report from the Department of Commerce, which has just issued its every-five-year Census of Manufacturers. Readers can find information on other print-industry markets at: www.census.gov/econ/census02/guide

Our biggest

Direct Mail Solutions, a division of BBF Printing Solutions, recently made the largest single investment in our history with the purchase of a new Sanden XP1500 Web Offset Direct Mail press. Please let us know if the release we sent is appropriate for Graphic Arts Monthly.

Lindsay Owens , Marketing Specialist, BBF Printing Solutions, Largo, FL

Great timing, given our cover story on web offset presses. We're pleased to include your news. Readers are encouraged to send news items for publication to bill.esler@reedbusiness.com and, for online news in e-GAM, to cross.gam@reedbusiness.com.

New Offices for Graphic Arts Monthly

Publisher Phil Saran has announced the relocation of Graphic Arts Monthly's main editorial office to Oak Brook, IL (near Chicago), from New York City. Bill Esler was named editor in chief, succeeding Roger Ynostroza, who has been promoted to editorial director. Esler, a 30-year print industry veteran, is joined by Mark Vruno, new senior editor in Oak Brook. "With strong editorial presence in New York and Chicago, we have a powerful one-two punch in both these printing centers," says Saran.

Other GAM staff includes: Lisa Cross, senior editor (New York); Joann Strashun Whitcher, eastern regional editor; Noel Jeffrey, western regional editor; and Deborah Toth, project editor.

Our new address:
