Xerox Corporation, selected as the exclusive managed in-plant printing document provider for both the 2004 Democratic and Republican national conventions this summer, produced a total of about 11 million impressions at the events in Boston and New York City.
"This is a fast-paced environment that requires enormous resources and expertise," says Xerox's Monica E. McBride, who, as a sales consultant for the company's Short-Term Rental/Event Services, oversaw production at the conventions. "At events such as these, you have to be able to jump at a moment's notice. Our team does that seamlessly, behind the scenes, in a 24-hours-a-day true print-on-demand operation. We're quite proud of that."
Xerox staffed each convention with about 25 on-site workers, who operated a combination of DocuTech 6180 monochrome production-publishing machines, DocuTech 6135 units, and Document Centre 480 ST machines on the company's DocuSP and DigiPath workflow systems. The output ranged from calendars of events and media guides to speeches produced on site during the events. Xerox-equipped shops located off site produced color documents.
"These conventions are among the most document-intensive events in the world," says Michael Mac Donald, president of Xerox's North American Solutions Group, adding that Xerox has had a role in supporting each party's convention with document services, equipment, and supplies since 1988.
Adds Mac Donald, "Our strength in providing efficient, short-term services for both committees' printing and office needs, coupled with our ability to manage the entire process on site, made Xerox the only choice to tackle such important events."
