Vue/Point Tackles Topics
Staff -- graphic arts online, 3/1/2004
Virtually all of the industry's hot issues will be topics of discussion at Vue/Point, the three-day interactive, user-oriented conference to be held March 29-31 in Washington, D.C., say organizers.
They point to the following list as evidence: color proofing, variable-data printing, advanced screening technologies, profit potential of the packaging market, opportunities in mailing and fulfillment, JDF workflow implementation, customer-care tactics, and how printers justify new purchases.
The conference, launched 15 years ago by Footprint Communications, is produced by the Graphic Arts Show Company, Reston, Va., with Michael Vinocur serving as program chairman.
Daily activities include general and concurrent sessions (often described as "lively" and "no-holds-barred"), user panels, vendor-sponsored breakfast roundtable discussions, and networking meetings.
A final-day session, moderated by Professor Frank Romano of Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology, features "fearless predictions" about Drupa 2004 by industry editors.
The event, which annually draws from 500 to 700 registrants, this year for the first time features tabletop displays by each of the 18 official sponsors.
One regular attendee and printer panelist, Joe Metzger of Metzgers, Inc., a sheetfed printing facility in Holland, Ohio, comments, "The best thing about Vue/Point is the personal interaction with other decisionmakers, learning what exactly makes them profitable. Long breaks between sessions warrant lots of quality time to meet and interact with many great people."
