Usage of Sheetfed Ink Is Steady; Ink Jet Rises

Researchers asked printing and prepress firms to report on how their use of various types of inks and toners is changing. Following are some of the top responses in the TrendWatch survey:

  • 45% of all print and prepress firms expect their use of sheetfed offset inks to stay the same.
  • 41% of print and prepress firms say their use of special inks, like metallic, will stay the same.
  • 37% of print and prepress firms report their use of oil-based inks for offset duplicators will stay the same.
  • 34% of respondents say they won't use energy-curable inks.
  • 29% report that they don't use heatset web offset inks.
  • 27% say that they will use more inks for ink-jet proofers and wide-format printers.
  • 4% say they will start using toners for high-speed color digital presses.
