Incorrect Name Used

Editor:

In your January cover story [titled "Extreme Output," regarding large-format web presses], you make reference to Treasure Chest, a company that has not been known by that name for more than seven years.

When it was acquired by Big Flower Holdings in the early '90s, the name was changed to TC Advertising. Later, after it returned to privately held status, it became TC Advertising, the retail and newspaper services unit of Vertis, Inc.

Finally, last January, all references to TC Advertising were eliminated, as were the names of any of Vertis's other business unit, and the company became known simply as Vertis.

Average Rework Rate?

Editor:

I would like to know if there is any information on your site or in your magazine regarding the standard or average percentage of rework there is in the commercial printing industry. Specifically, I'm looking for rates of reruns of printing jobs. Thanks.

The National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) and the Printing Industries of America (PIA) both quote specific figures for rework in various studies they prepare.

According to Raymond J. Prince, who serves as senior technical consultant for the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, the average generally is about 2% of gross sales, with profit-leader companies usually coming in well under that figure. Says Prince, most of the accounts he visits use the 2% figure as a measure.

For precise figures, he adds, consider purchasing the appropriate studies. To inquire, contact NAPL at (201) 634-9600, via e-mail at info@napl.org, or on the Web at napl.org; PIA is at (703) 519-8100, via e-mail at gain@printing.org, and on the Web at gain.net.

Sales Commissions

Editor:

I recently read an article in Graphic Arts Monthly called "2002 Salary Survey" and am hoping you can lead me to information about commissions paid to sales reps. I'm looking for the average commission percentage for sales reps.
