The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Rochester, N.Y., has begun conducting print testing on its new six-unit gapless Sunday 2000 web press, which was supplied to RIT's School of Print Media by Heidelberg Web Systems.
The press, valued at about $8 million, is supported by $1.6 million in components and consumables provided by 18 partners (see box at right). Installation in a new press laboratory on campus has been underway since October; a dedication ceremony and grand opening is set for April 25.
"RIT and the industry as a whole will benefit for years from Heidelberg's partnership and the generosity of all the suppliers," says Bill Garno, director of RIT's Printing Applications Laboratory.
