Ralf Sammeck has been named president and chief executive of KBA North America Inc., sheetfed division, Williston, Vt., succeeding Allan F. Malachuk, who capped a 40-year industry career, the last 11 as head of the KBA unit. Sammeck previously headed KBA's Karat digital press division in Germany.
Baldwin Technology Company, Inc., Shelton, Conn., completed the sale of its inserter and materials-handling equipment business to Kansa Technology LLC, Emporia, Kan.
Quebecor World Inc., Montreal, has named John Paloian and David Boles as co-chief operating officers for North America, reporting directly to Charles G. Cavell, president and chief executive. Paloian, president of the magazine and catalog group, adds responsibility for the commercial/direct group. Boles, president of the retail and Sunday magazine group, adds oversight for premedia, Que-Net Media, and the directory and book groups. The promotions follow the departure in September of Marc L. Reisch as head of Quebecor World North America.
Heidelberg of Germany has acquired IDAB Wamac, a Swedish manufacturer of newspaper mailroom equipment that employs about 120 people and bills $35 million in sales.
The Printing Industries of America has launched "Designing4Digital," a multimedia toolkit designed to help graphic designers and creative professionals prepare successful digital printing jobs.
Kenneth Garner, president of United Litho, Inc., Ashburn, Va., has received the 2002 Soderstrom Award from the National Association for Printing Leadership, Paramus, N.J., the group's highest designation.
