During Graph Expo, the Printing Industries of America (PIA) recognized best-of-category winners in its 52nd annual Premier Print Awards competition, called the world's largest and oldest program recognizing printing excellence. The top trophies are Ben Franklin-like "Benny" statuettes.
The competition, which drew more than 5,000 entries, recognizes quality in 93 categories. Williamson Printing Corp., Dallas, Tex., won the sponsors' gold award for the most number of winning entries (65, including five Bennys). Metropolitan Fine Printers, Inc., Vancouver, B.C., took silver (54 prizes, including seven Bennys), and Peake Printers, Inc., Cheverly, Md., won bronze (44 prizes, including two Bennys).
Sponsors include Heidelberg, Kodak Polychrome Graphics, Sun Chemical, and Utica National Insurance Group. Graphic Arts Monthly is PIA's publishing partner in the program; an awards supplement will accompany the December issue.
GAM and PIA awarded the Lewis Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award during the ceremony.
