Cold Foil

Akzo Nobel Inks has unveiled Foilband TC ThruCure Adhesive, developed for a wide variety of substrates and optimized for cold dieLess foiling technology. The offering is applied to a substrate via flexographic printing. The substrate then is nipped with the foil and passed through the UV unit while still under pressure; the foil transfers from its carrier and adheres to the adhesive. This technique eliminates the need for costly heated rotary engraved dies or major changes in press configuration, claims the manufacturer.

Anilox Roll Technology

Harper Corporation of America is now offering its Platinum anilox technology, a technological advancement in the production and quality of laser-engraved anilox rolls. The Platinum anilox is the result of Harper's new laser process, which reacts with modified trace elements in the firm's Echoplasma ceramic coatings, producing a 60% increase in ceramic cauterization, says the company. As a result of the additional cauterization of the cell walls and cell bottoms, Platinum technology forms smoother cell cavities and provides easier cleaning, better ink release, high ink densities, and smoother laydowns, claims Harper.
