John E. Utley has been named chairman of X-Rite, Incorporated, Grandville, Mich., succeeding Ted Thompson, a company founder who is retiring after 45 years of service to the company. Rich Cook continues as chief executive, Mike Ferrara as president.

Sun Chemical, Fort Lee, N.J., and Eltromat GmbH, Leopoldshöhe, Germany, will jointly market on-press color management systems. In the deal, Eltromat will buy Colour Valid Group of the United Kingdom (of which Sun is a majority shareholder), whose products include the video-based AccuColour system.

Day International, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, has appointed Steven Wilson president of its Chemical Products Division (which includes Varn fountain solutions and blanket washes) and Steven Noe senior vice president and general manager of its Transfer Media Division (including dayGraphica offset blankets). Also named: Archie Doyle, sales vice president of both divisions; Jeffrey Pieper, marketing manager, Chemical Products; Michael Neroni, marketing vice president, Transfer Media; and Michael Treadaway, marketing director, offset blanket products.
