Sappi Fine Paper North America, Boston, named six Gold Award winners for 2001 in its Printer of the Year competition. Winners (and categories) include: Canfield & Tack, Inc., Rochester, N.Y. (books); Graphics Illustrated, Riviera Beach, Fla. (brochures); Quebecor World, Jonesboro, Ark. (magazines); Toppan Printing Company America, Inc., Somerset, N.J. (catalogs); Unique Printers and Lithographers, Cicero, Ill. (annual reports); and W.E. Andrews, a Wallace Company, Bedford, Mass. (general products). More than 2,800 entries were received.
papiNet NA is the name of a new North American initiative formed by the American Forest & Paper Association, Washington, D.C., and Idealliance (formerly the Graphic Communications Association, Alexandria, Va.), to develop e-business processes and standards for a total paper supply chain whose standards will match those of the European Paper Consortium. Plans call for including Asia and Latin America in the papi-Net effort.
Servador, Inc., New York City, provider of print outsourcing services, has acquired the business of 58k.com, also of New York City, which provides auction technology for the commercial printing industry.
MegTec Systems, Inc., De Pere, Wis., has agreed to buy Baldwin Technology Company's roll handling business, which includes all assets and operations of Baldwin Enkel Corporation, Rockford, Ill.; Baldwin Amal AB, Amal, Sweden; and Baldwin Printing Equipment Shanghai Company, Shanghai, China.
Vio, the file-delivery company previously owned by Scitex and British Telecom, was purchased by Citizen Limited, a corporate technology consortium based in the United Kingdom. The buyer intends to maintain Vio's operations.
