GraphicBrain.com Introduces Industry Search Engine

GraphicBrain.com is a new graphic arts industry search engine launched by VIGC, the Flemish Innovation Center for Graphic Communication, a non-profit organization that provides information and services to graphic arts companies, printers, publishers, and corporate organizations.
Information populating the site is obtained mainly from Web sites, magazines, and discussion groups.
"It is really amazing what is already available on the Internet, if you can find it of course," reasons GraphicBrain.com manager Eddy Hagen. "GraphicBrain.com was originally intended only to be an internal tool to manage our own information resources more efficiently and to access the information much faster.
"But we see more and more companies that are providing really good information on their sites, not only information on their products, but also general information. The Adobe site is a splendid example: it has product information, tutorials, discussion groups, and even basic information on color and color management. Other nice examples are Flint Ink and Kiwo."
The brain behind GraphicBrain.com is the knowledge management software from Autonomy. Hagen explains that the Autonomy software doesn't work with familiar text-based searches, but analyzes the text and derives the ideas and concepts. It also is based on neural network technology, and is self-adaptive.
Whenever a large document is found—for example, a PDF file comprising 40 pages—the user only receives a summary of those pages that cover the topic being searched. Another advantage of Autonomy is that the user can enter complex queries and can even cut and paste a paragraph into the search field. GraphicBrain.com then will analyze this and provide similar documents.
